Hi.

I purchased some 12mm teak faced marine plywood from Robbins and cut some new washboards.

The only problem is that they look rubbish owing to me doing a poor job cutting them with the wrong bladed jigsaw and varnishing.

Also the originals had a white laminate on the cabin side which look better I feel

I can't start again so was wondering if you could buy these in the original .spec.

Does anyone know where you could buy these?

Thanks.

Strip the varnish off and do it properly using International Woodskin. If the edges are rough, then plane them back so that the boards are a bit smaller and edge with solid teak (about 6mm) to bring them back to the correct size. This is good practice anyway as it protects the end grain of the ply. If you want white laminate on the inside them just buy some and glue it on with impact adhesive. One of the easiest jobs to do. Make sure your runners are wide enough to take the extra thickness or leave a margin.

Teak faced 12mm ply is too valuable to throw away. Just take more care doing the job properly.

As Tranona says, cut the boards down and edge with hardwood (teak, iroko, even oak). The edgings on mine are only about 3mm but perfectly adequate. The top and bottom edgings on my boards are made from a trapezoidal(?) moulding that prevents water from running inside.

I think they will look best if the inside surface is finished to match the rest of the interior wood work and that a white finish on the inside of the washboards alone gives them the appearance of something taken from a cheap fitted kitchen.
