was returning back to Bray after our first trip up river to Henley, when we spotted a sports cruiser in trouble just upstream from Monkey island hotel. It had got itself stuck on the shallow stuff the sticks out from the island (the bit that is marked with a bouy and branches sticking out the waterline).
Wasn't going any where with a full load of people on board and was trying full throttle to get out of the situation. They called out for us to try and tow them out, but I advised them all to get to the back of the boat and stick it in reverse. Worked a treat and they were out on the first attempt.
I have very little boating skills and knowledge as this is all new to me, but had read on this forum, that this was the technique to use if you run aground, so was feeling pretty pleased that was able to help out.

Just goes to show how helpful this forum is!

Between Hambleden and Hurley locks yesterday afternoon I saw a Caversham hire boat sporting vast amounts of foliage. It appeared to have gone ploughing into the greenery in one of the side channels. Seemed to give their kids something to do in removing it all.

saw a few incidents over the course of the weekend. As we were heading towards Marlow (by the scout camp area under the road bridge) we turned the corner to see a bloke floating down river with his life jacket inflated. Luckily by the time we reached him, some of the guys in Kayaks from the camp had came out to his rescue. Turned out he had fallen out of his motorised inflatable further upstream, which we spotted a few moments later upstream wedged up on the bank with its motor still running!
Whilst having a BBQ at cookham, we saw 2 sets of canoeist capsize, with all their belongings. The were rescued by the Cookham rowing clubs safety boat very quickly, which was a relieve as I was half way through cooking my lunch at the time and didn't want to abandon my sausages at that crucial moment in order to to carry out a rescue!!
