I agree the lock keepers have been great this year, always good in previous years .
Going off thread for a minute, is it just me or do the lock keepers seem to be making an extra effort to be friendly this year? They have never been unfriendly, but seem to me to be trying that bit harder.
Have to say I often wonder whether the RYA Helmsman's Course shouldn't be obligatory before allowing anyone on the Thames!
Today Exactly the opposite happened to me
I was coming downstream and was lining up on the centre arch when an " inspection launch" style narrowboat coming upstream did a very hard turn to Starboard and went through the next arch over.
All I can say is Thank you ( as I did at the time when we passed ) as it could have got very messy as I dont think that Parglena will fit through any of the other arches with the mast and wheelhouse up!
If I saw Parglena coming towards me I would give way regardless of whether I was going up or downstream!
