Was I in the wrong?

Going off thread for a minute, is it just me or do the lock keepers seem to be making an extra effort to be friendly this year? They have never been unfriendly, but seem to me to be trying that bit harder.

I think the lockies have every reason to be grateful for the vociferous fight we all put up against the EA for trying to sell their homes. But they still have another battle on their hands which is the renegotiation of their contracts so its testimony to their strength of character that they can still give us a smile.

I know they are only doing their job but it makes such a dramatic affect on our enjoyment of the river that someone's been known to sneak a bottle of wine into their cabin when they pass. ;)

Have to say I often wonder whether the RYA Helmsman's Course shouldn't be obligatory before allowing anyone on the Thames! Although I suppose those of the disposition will still be inconsiderate and ignore all manners and etiquete. Probably only behaving the same way as they do every other day of the week!

Today Exactly the opposite happened to me
I was coming downstream and was lining up on the centre arch when an " inspection launch" style narrowboat coming upstream did a very hard turn to Starboard and went through the next arch over.
All I can say is Thank you ( as I did at the time when we passed ) as it could have got very messy as I dont think that Parglena will fit through any of the other arches with the mast and wheelhouse up!

Jeez ! Christ no ! not more legislation and bits of useless paper. Give people any scrap of paper saying they know "how" and they immediately assume the airs of an Extra Master.

If I saw Parglena coming towards me I would give way regardless of whether I was going up or downstream!
