Warships in the Minch

Marine Traffic is showing a number of warships north of me in the Minch, none of them appear to be from the UK. Do we actually have any warships that work or is this the Spanish retracing some of the Armada survivors?

Most likely they will be part of the bi-annual NATO Operation Warrior which is underway just now.

Exercise Joint Warrior 2018 starts 21st April incorporating personnel from 17 nations.

More than 11,600 military personnel from 17 nations will take part in Exercise Joint Warrior for two weeks this spring in one of the largest exercises of its kind in Europe, operating out of Her Majesty’s Naval Base (HMNB) Clyde, Scotland.

I don't think the RN can afford AIS. They need all their spare cash for new destroyer engines and fixing aircraftless aircraft carriers.

That is not true, the MOD has plenty of money, they just have not extracted it from your bank account yet.
