have spotted a warrior 40 in st lucia on the ybw site, cheap as chips, agent in malahide, have asked questions but they are not very forthcoming as yet, any one got any thoughts on buying there and parking whilst getting things together? safe weather or bandit wise?

Rodney Bay marina is a hurricane hole. Over the summer they offer exclusive use of a double berth so you can tie yourself in thoroughly. That will take care of everything except a direct hit from a hurricane (the berths are fixed concrete structures so don't allow for storm surge.

As for security, the marina is reasonably well covered with full time staff. There are some risks of muggings around the area but your boat isn't likely to be ransacked.

Any boat for sale is almost certain to be at Rodney Bay.

If I'm correct, this boat was anchored in Rodney Bay lagoon when we were there in early 2006. It had a for sale sign on it then but looked in decent enough condition. I may be mistaken but it looks like the same one.
 
Weather wise, the odds are very good that there will not be any abnormal weather before about June or July. As Snowleopard says, you could moor her in the marina over the summer - the lagoon is fairly well protected, unless there is a large storm surge.

But your best bet would be to bail out before then - either head south, or (far) north, as in up the eastern seaboard of the USA, or sail her back to Europe. If bringing her back across the pond, you would not want to leave the Windies any later than about mid May at the latest.

How cheap is 'cheap as chips'? Is anything obviously wrong with her that they are admitting to at this stage?

Rather than commissioning a survey, if you are keen on the boat buy yourself a plane ticket and have a good look around her by yourself first - then maybe consider a condition survey if you definitely want to go ahead with purchasing her.

Warriors are fine vessels with a good reputation - we have a smaller (35') Challenger (which is the aft cockpit version of the Warrior). She was solidly built, and can display a fair turn of speed with a clean bottom (as she has a long keel).

Skipper Stu - did you know there's a Warrior 40 outside Dickie's (c. - £79,000).
We spotted her yesterday and liked the look of her layout. Lovely cockpit.

yes, thats what set us on the search, we spent several hours on her on sunday but swmbo didnt like the shortness ofthe forward bed and the openess of the interior, i fell in love but you know what women are like!!
