!!! WARNING !!!
If you receive an Email from "Whatsapp" purporting to carry a Voicemail message for you. DO NOT OPEN IT. Delete it immediately. It is a Virus and a tough one to remove at that.

Not quite cut and dried! The message takes you to a dodgy website which attempts to install stuff you probably don't want...

However, the file type doesn't work on many devices as it's a jar. file!

iPhones are obviously not affected by this sort of stuff...

This particular and latest nasty installs a so called Virus Checker on your PC. Any attempt to remove it just results in an offer to remove all the purported problem if you buy it. You will be unable to even open a Browser, ctrl/alt/del, any other Virus Checker is disabled as are all Malware Checkers.

Nope, simple format and reinstall sorts it out.

Better still buy a Mac. I can't believe anybody owns a PC these days, horrible wretched things...

And the the same is often said about anything made by Apple :)

Seriously?

On what planet. Apple actually has the highest customer satisfaction rating because of the 'walled garden' it applies to mobile Apps.

The geeks hate Apple because they can't molest the software to suit their perverse needs, yet the normal users enjoy using a device which doesn't get affected by the issues which plague PC's and Androids.

I can only assume you still use a PC ;-)

This is my first mac, had it about 3/4 years now and whilst it can be annoying when you cannot figure how to get it to do what you want a quick internet search sorts that.
Never had any problems, but the blokes at work are always having issues with their pcs.

I've resisted getting into this debate which has been going on across the Internet for ever and ever. I have Imac, Ipad, PC (desktop + 2 Laptops).
My opinion is that Apple tend to be too restrictive and there's less software available especially free stuff. Example, The Ipad has no USB port nor can anything using Flash be played. You are forced to use Itunes which is an abomination (at least there are now better alternatives out there.)

Horses for courses. Both are genuinely similar and comparable.

Please don't fall into the trap of thinking Macs can't catch viruses though. You'll notice that Apple have now changed their slogan to "Macs can't catch PC viruses" Rather than the old "cant catch Viruses", as it simply wasn't true.

(technically speaking, they can't catch human viruses either, but they don't crow about that!)

I have both, PC and Apple, and neither crashes very often, or has ever caught a virus.

Too late for anyone who's been infected, but the most effective way (apart from not opening unknown attachments) is to create an image back up (Ghost or similar) of your operating system drive, then if you do get infected you can just reinstall the image and be back to square one in about 20 mins. Much less hassle than a format and reinstall.
