If you have Raymarine Chartplotters do not throw away any old low capacity CF cards.

It appears the smallest memory CF card manufactured today is 4GB yet the E80 and E120 will mostly only recognise a 214Mb or 528Mb CF card with the free Raymarine software downloaded on it.

The software upgrade is necessary if you buy the latest Navionics CF card charts.

I thought I was being thorough in upgrading to the latest charts for the channel & bay of biscay only to find my chartplotters kept crashing or would not show any detail.

I have managed to upgrade the E120 with a 4GB CF card but the E80 refuses to "see" the 4GB CF card.

Raymarine technical support have been v helpful but also commented that they found the Scandisc brand more reliable

Buy one on e bay. About a fiver for a low capacity cf card. Had to do the same to upgrade the software on my C120. It was still running the original launch version!

Would do except e bay won't accept a delivery address "somewhere lost in the bay of biscay with a chartplotter that won't work!"

I posted on the forums we have at work, asking to borrow a low-capacity card if anybody had one. My work has no particular connection with sailing, but nevertheless someone responded saying "let me guess, you're upgrading an old Raymarine plotter" :)

(As it turned out, I actually had a 64mb card in a drawer from an old camera.)

Pete
