I have heard, and it is no more than that. That in the near future Marina's and the like will not be able to ' sell on' electricity at a 'Premium'

It seems some have already beaten the system by a 'Facility Charge' then the electricity at cost.

Anyone got the real 'gen'

you would think that this would be an illegal practice anyway. I haven't had my electricity bill yet, from my place but am preparing to be startled considering I've had heaters and de-humidifier on all winter...

This came about last year and you are right. Marinas have to charge electricity on at cost. But because it costs marinas capital sums to install and maintain equipment and wiring to a high safety standard, they are allowed to make a charge. The question, as always, is what is a fair charge? And are marinas ripping us off?

The marina I'm berthed at has a card system for loading a meter on the pontoon. A 50kw card cost £5. Recently, a notice in the marina office appeared stating that the unit price of the kw's had come down, but they had now introduced a service charge. The new cost of a 50kw card including service charge was now - you guessed it - £5!

Is it me or does this just make a joke of it.

Cheers

Wayne

So why did anyone seek to interfere with the old basis of a more expensive unit charge?? It was simple - you could see precisely by how much you were being ripped off. It is another example of the Nanny state trying to regulate where none was needed.

The old moto KISS Keep it simple stupid! seems to be needed to be relearnt by all our public servants!

My monthly electricity bill on the old system was less than £3. I then received a letter detailing the new system of charging less per unit but with a standing charge. And the standing charge is...£5 per month! So my monthly bill (OK, not much I know) will double as a consequence of the new, fairer legislation.
