I made the huge mistake if chartering a boat in Croatia last summer. Now my wife has told me she does not want to keep a boat inthe UK any more :(

You all know what that means... GARDENING!

Do what we did . Kept a boat here as well as one in Corfu. You probably won't want to go there is July and August when you have a chance of 2 or 3 days of good weather here.

Well at least you will have lots of sunshine, blue waters and are away from all this cold wet weather.

Congratulations. When are you buying the property?

My wife had already decided that before we went out to Croatia for the first time and bought an old charter boat.

I can't imagine ever having a boat in the UK again - at least not while there are cheap flight airlines to most of the Med coast. We move our boat from one marina base to another in Italy, Greece and Croatia so far - but for the first 3 years we kept the same mid-Croatia base because it was such good sailing, so beautiful and we loved the food. After time in Italy and Greece we went back to Croatia for a season last year partly to enjoy the food which is so much better and more varied than either of the other countries (partly because of the rush to Michelin stars in Croatia but mostly because good Croatian food borrows from Venetian, Balkan and Ottoman food so unashamedly).

No reason why you can't combine keeping a boat in the UK with some gardening.

Well I live in Galicia and bought a boat in Chichester......must admit weather does work against it but we have enjoyed maritime activities in the Uk

When I was deck hand / ' engineer ' on a hotel barge in Burgundy a couple of duties which took a bit of getting used to were hoovering the astro-turf ' gazon ' guest deck and watering the begonias; at least I didn't have to tack them side to side though. :)

Excellent,
We had similar experience and now we have smaller boat permanently based in Croatia, which we keep ashore when not in use.
