Keep an eye on the "find a fishing boat" website and "Apollo duck" site couple of months ago a 4lh was offered for sale (fully working condition) for £1,000!!!!
I lost out on it by 5 mins, I was looking to purchase for a project which never came off in the end, both good sites though...good luck.

Okay thanks - ill have a look on there in a bit!! I have tried boatsandoutboards, and was subject to a scam :( completely my fault but learn not to trust people very quickly!

Thanks
Will

Boatsandoutboards site has been subjected to three or four scams involving generators in the last few weeks. One said 'local pickup preferred' I emailed and they came back saying she was on Isles Of Scilly. Same with one from Luxembourg, and then another from Isles of Scilly again. What a bunch of muppets. I replied to their emails with some choice wishes about their lives shortening rather tragically.
I hear that site is inundated with scammers so watch out and if it seems too good to be true it will almost certainly be a scam.

Let's be careful out there..............

I have a love affair with the 4HLA HOWEVER genuine second hand ones can make over £4K, ones out of sinkers almost as much, however there is the rub, Yanmar parts prices are astronomical and what appears to be a bargain can land you in deep poo! For example engine MUST come with instruments.

Remember cheapies always have ready market in US now production has been over for about 5 years.

Good luck

Hence why I was gutted to lose it, had full loom and panel!.......boo hoo...

Thanks all, and thanks for the PM Mercuryman!

I think from what I have heard thats a great little engine, so am very keen to get it fitted for next season.

About the Boatsandoutboards, I am trying to take the man to court (yeah good luck with that I hear you all saying!!) But I would certainly recommend to never ever buy without seeing it, no matter how convincing they are. Hopefully I can use his bank details to track it down, but its not looking good!
Cheers

Maybe a heads up for the forum on how the scam worked and what to look out for might be good?......save another get ripped off at least.

Yeah was a pretty basic affair to be honest, saw the engine in boatsandoutboards, emailed the guy a few times, seemed fine to begin with. he sent me a load of pics of the engine, and emailed pretty quick back all the time, until i stupidly sent the funds.

Waited a few days, then curiosity got the better of me so i opened up a new email account and emailed him back. Yes the engine was still for sale, but in a completely different part of the country :( I emailed to say I have relatives who can come and see it, and funny this, no response!

So yeah, kinda learnt the hard way, lost a lot of cash, so certainly wont be doing that again!
