I have a 14.5 x19 brand new and boxed for a Alpha 1 Gen 2 in my garage.

Unless your boat is very small and light the 3.0L will not pull WOT with a 23 pitch.

My 20ft binliner cuddy weighs in at just over a ton and performs best with a 19p which is the standard OEM size for my particular boat. The 21p is too much pitch to achieve WOT. I have a very lightly dinged 14.5x19p and a couple of 14.5x 21p, one as a spare on the boat and one in the garage collecting dust. You can have the one of your choice for the price of a pint if you collect it yourself.

Start by knowing what rpm you achieve at WOT with your normal load.
It must reach the range 4400-4800 rpm - aiming for 4800 to ensure best hole shot and mpg.

If over or under the range you'll change rpm at WOT by 200 per inch change in pitch (normally available in steps of 2" so ie. 400 rpm).

Your worst enemy is weight. To get more speed FREE simply remove dead weight :D

90% of a propeller's efficiency stems from design. 10% from material (comparing alu/stainless on a standard setup).
Plastic or composite are to be avoided unless you are in a habbit of hitting things below surface (easy break, saves the driveline components)

If you want, I have some brand new stainless Mercury props. less than half list price, including FloTorq hub.
