Wanted: A really LOUD buzzer

I rebuilt my instrument panel last winter and used a piezo-buzzer (from Maplins, the loudest one they had) that was described as being very loud. For waterproofing reasons it has to be mounted behind the panel inside the instrument box and consequently it's just not loud enough. With the engine running you can hear it if you're listening for it, but it doesn't really make it's presence felt if you know what I mean. ;)

I do have an oil pressure and water temperature gauge but I'm not always watching those of course. So does anyone know where I can get a really LOUD 12v buzzer from? For space reasons it can't be more than about 2 inches on each side and you need to be able to hear it from behind a 5mm thick acrylic panel.

I recently fitted one of the Rule ones from the bilge water alarm system, the buzzer is available as a seperate part, it is waterproof and can be dash mounted so no loss of sound. This was on a large noisy 12 passanger RIB nobody can fail to hear the thing. It is quite large though and not cheap.

Drill a 1mm hole to line up with the hole on the buzzer. Glue some thin acrylic gel (OHP sheets work well) over the buzzer, then glue on panel. A very thin sheet of silicone rubber also works well, and is easier to stick. Make sure you don't block the hole in the buzzer with adhesive.

That's a neat idea, I'll take a look at the possibility of doing that with my existing buzzer. Thanks.
 
Interested to see how it goes Tony. My panel buzzer doesnt work at all so its on my repair list for next season.
I also have tinitus and simply cant hear some buzzers so my comment was definately tongue-in-cheek. In fact bearing in mind my hearing problem it might be me with the 110db unit next year so listen out ;)
