I followed the link. This is a page from which I can download a program, the functions and origins of which are not disclosed. I can only guess at the safety and security. I think I will decline.
It's a very good piece of software which details all the hardware your computer is using.
These days, though, the creators, Lavalys, are concentrating on the commercial versions, so this free home user version is no longer supported, and as time goes on will become less and less useful as new hardware comes on the market and the software cannot identify it. It can no longer be downloaded from the Lavalys site, but you can still download it off the internet from sites such as the one linked to.
However, I can't really see many circumstances where one is unsure about what hardware is installed. Software, yes, since it has ways of sneaking in, but you have to go out and buy hardware and push in in to slots. You can't do that without noticing, can you?
This goes into detail that you'd be hard pushed to find any other way, with out a whole bunch of different utilities. Most people will never need that level of detail, but for some it's extremely useful.
Does it give more than... start Word... Help...About...System Info ? I have always been gob-smacked that this utility is hidden away in such a remote corner. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
The beauty of having a mac - who cares what voltage the memory is operating at? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif (Though System Profiler tells you everything you realistally need to know about your mac).
