Some considerable time ago there was talk of moorings being put into Wandsworth Creek. The Creek is located between Putney and Wandsworth Bridge. I have never ventured in there even with a dinghy but from the river it looks like an easy dredge out jobbie.
Anyone know any more? Was it like the marina planned for Margate which never happened even though outline Planning permission had been given.

Is that te creek that ends up by The Crane pub on Armoury Way?

I aint got a clue as I have never been in there. It's where the river Wandle enters the Thames and there is a small basin there so at some time in the dim and distant past it must have been used commercially.

Can't shed any light on the moorings Byron but if you have a look at google maps their are several photos of it would be quite good if the gave it a dredge.

Old stamping ground

In my tender years we lived in Putney, and the Wandle (Wand(les)worth) was subject to much derision.
Youngs brewery (the last to use horse drays in sarf London, it is said) were further up the creek. I suspect the wharf was used by them for coal and grain deliveries.
Very nice beers, no doubt enhanced by the folk lore that the water was extracted straight from the river.

The river extends much further along and was the exit point for the ill fated Croydon canal.

The south side of the river is slowly becoming gentrified with blocks of flats taking over from derelict wharves. Many of the developments install token moorings, but not many of them are used.

Without any suitable overnight moorings on the Tideway it's not very practicable to explore some of these creeks without extensive planning.

The Tuesday Night Club are very intrepid, but I never realised they had been so brave!

Too many a drinker Youngs was always known as the Wandle Wash.
The beer does not taste the same now it is brewed in Bedfordshire @ Charles Wells.
John Young is spinnig in his grave.

I jumped ship before the TNC did the Wandle, and Deptford Creek beforehand, but on that trip we went down to Dartford Creek and you can see the results here;

When you go downriver past the Erith Yacht Club moorings, and round the corner so the QE2 Bridge opens out, you'll notice a tidal barrier on the south side. We went down and arrived close to low water, so just grounded the bow in the mud and waited for the tide to rise. We then went in slowly, getting aground every so often, until we could continue on up to the the lock at Dartford which only has stop planks, so again we waited until the tide gave us enough water to go over these, and about another mile further. Then down to the junction with the Cray, and as far up as we could on that river. By then it was pretty much HW, and the rivers had been transformed into some much like the fens or broads, quite pretty reed lined banks as against the muddy rubbish strewn appearance near LW. When we got back out into the Thames we had a real struggle to get back to Limehouse against the ebb.
