Hi. Anyone else own a 29'6" Wanderer Class sloop, designed by Jack Laurent-Giles? Ours was built by Choey Lee, in Hong Kong in 1965. Apparently there are almost 40 out there, somewhere.

Same but incorporating a few improvements suggested by Hiscock, I think, and a few inches wider to dampen downwind rolling.

Hi,

Have you got a photo you could post, it would be nice to see it. I am reading the Wandere IV book at the moment. Yours must be the same as Wanderer III owned the Hiscocks.

The question is would you remove all the electrics, GPS, Radio and only have 4hp petrol engine which never starts and then sail round the world in it using old charts. The Hiscocks must have had some confidence to do that. You should read the book, "Round the World in Wanderer III".

Our boat is the class version of the Hiscocks boat, of which only a few have been built. Ours is 6" shorter, 6" beamier and has slightly more of a cut away forefoot. The hull shape is unmistakably Laurent Giles. I believe that close to 40 are afloat, the latest being recently built by the boat building school at Lowestoft, I think. The boat inspires confidence, but as to doing it the hard way... Well, the original 8hp petrol engine was replaced in '75 for a Volvo Penta 25hp which now seems pretty ancient, but works, even if a little smokily. The GPS stays as do the vhf and the electric lights. Yep, we've read all of the Hiscock books that we can get our hands on. But blue water sailing is not currently on the agenda. Thanks for your reply.

Sounds good, personally I wouldn't have the nerve to leave the Solent without all my navigation, radio and safety kit.

Look forward to the photo.
