Is it that time already?

On Sunday 27th July the W&FYC are holding their Open Day from 1115.

In addition to all of the traditional activities, crabbing & the like, the Walton Life Boat hopes to pay a visit, arriving at about mid day and staying long-side as long as the tide permits. The crew will be delighted to show visitors around their state-of-the-art boat.

Love to see you if you can make it & should you require furthers details please post.

Hageso lives in the Walton Basin so should anybody wish to join us for the Open Day please PM me for access details.

Should folk wish to make a weekend of it, PM me & I will provide pilotage from the Spit Buoy, in The Walton Channel, up Foundry Reach to "The Pond" when the cap-flap is open (about 1 1/2 hours before high water); 1100 on the Saturday & 1130 on the Sunday.

Thanks Nortada for this information. We are thinking of paying this YC a visit so need answers to the following please.
1. Can we tie up anywhere near the club house without using the pond? We have a 20ft day boat.
2. Can you confirm that when the tide is out - it's OUT!
3. Is there anywhere local to stay should we want to stay in the area for the weekend?
I have no doubt that I will think of more question so will be in touch soon.
 
Come One, Come All

We anticipate this year's Open Day event, at the Walton & Frinton Yacht Club, will be the biggest ever. With our new clubhouse now open and things getting back to normal we will be expanding our range of stalls and events this year.

As Nortada mentioned our local Lifeboat and its crew will be pulling alongside our quay for visitors to have a look round.

New for this year will be a 'Junk Stall' with all sorts of things for sale. Some of it will be boaty stuff, some of it will not. An ideal place for those who like to rummage can spend their time and, hopefully, their money.

Also along with the normal raffles, tombolas and games a 1000 Prize Lucky Dip is being organised where everybody wins a prize. Prizes range from a pen to bottles of alcohol to teddy bears, and a whole lot more.

If you are interested in a Bosun Dinghy, there will be one of them on display, fully rigged out, and for sale - all offers will be considered - but only one person can buy it. If you have not got the cash, then you can pay by credit card if you wish.

Last year we introduced The Stocks where you could throw sponges at our resident 'volunteers' or, if you can talk them into it, a family member or friend.

The usual free boat trips, lasting about 15 minutes will be running, weather permitting.


Those of you visiting by car are asked to park in the Mill Lane car park, as due to the size of this year's event spaces will be limited on the club's site. The car park is a couple of minutes walk from the club. Boat users can moor in the Walton Yacht Basin. You are advised to book in advanced to make sure spaces are available. Come along and see what we have to offer. Even if it is to just visit our new clubhouse and facilities. I am sure you will find something that will take your interest.

Hi MF,

Thanks for getting back.

To take your questions in order.

1. There is no water outside the pond at the bottom of the tide so to stop over you need to be able to take the bottom, which in many places is soft mud. Past the pond there is Walton Town Hard which is gravel at the top of the tide but mud at its lower reaches. If you can take the bottom there are an assortment of moorings around the club & the Pond where you will be able to get ashore dry. A quick look at Earth Google & hopefully all will be revelled.

2. When the tide is out it is most definitely out!

3. Where to stay locally is a hard one. Afloat I would suggest the Walton Pond or failing that Titchmarsh Marina. Failing that pick up a buoy in the Walton Channel & dinghy up Foundry Reach to the club.

As to ashore, there are numerous use places in Walton but a bit out of my comfort zone so possibly another local may be able to help.

Many thanks for the info Nortada. We are looking forward to this open day but all will depend on the weather (as always)
 
well done to everybody. we had a good time visiting and you can be rightly proud of your club and its hospitality. i also got some advice as we've always stayed at titchmarch and don't like the long walk to town so we recce'd the pond. saw that there is a tide gauge leaving the pond but is there one entering (visible I presume from the water)?

we draw 1.5 metres so i imagine our entry and exit windows are quite limited. does anyone have a chartet of the entrance and where the best water is?
