Walton Backwaters

The following was published by Titchmarsh Marina on 27th Feb. Hope it helps.

Dear Berth-holder,

We are continuing to monitor the channel depth at number 16 buoy, Stone Point, on a regular basis. Soundings taken last week from buoy No. 11, buoy No. 16 and buoy No. 9 show that the channel is continuing to deepen. On average it is 0.1 metres deeper than it was when we last issued an update in November. The channel width has remained at No.16 (the narrowest point), with the width and depth maintained at No. 11 and No. 9.

Walton and Frinton Yacht Club will produce an updated chart of the area in April, for our information. This will be sent out via email and available in the Harbour Masters office. Harwich Haven Authority will be carrying out a survey before Easter. Further dredging will be carried out if considered necessary.

Strict adherence to buoyage is still advised. For example if you go the wrong side of red No. 16, within 6 metres the depth decreases by nearly a metre.

In the meantime, the general rule hasn't changed - if you look at our tide gauge on the fuel barge and can exit the Marina, you will have +0.4m at Stone Point No. 16 buoy (the shallowest point).

We will continue monitoring throughout the year and keep you up to date with the findings. We are extremely pleased that the channel remains deeper than the Marina entrance, as it always used to be.

Kind regards,

C.D. Titchmarsh
Marina Manager
