Last time I was boarded in Howth.

The customs had just taken delivery of a new rib complete with Musto suits and wanted to show them off, after a couple of trips round the bay and some fortified coffees they left happy, no paperwork was exchanged during the visit, just as well as we didn't have any!

Cork times headline: "cork man drowns!"

Seriously, I wouldn't bother your head. The worst that could happen is you would be down a pint of Guinness in the bar.

The other problem with not having photo ID is when the weather kicks up and you (or crew) may want to leave the boat there a while and fly or ferry back. I worry more about my own possible inconvenience than "officialdom".

Last time I flew there Ryanair checked passports at boarding but nobody "official" seemed to care less, at either end.
