I think thats what it's called - I saw a yacht motoring down the Deben on Sunday, with a boy on a board hanging on to the yacht with a waterski type handle & line taken to the masthead. I think the yacht must have been doing about 6knots and the board was weaving sideways across the wake. He did fall off once but was quickly recovered - he just hung onto the handle agaian. the boat speeded up and he was off again.
I've never seen this before - has anyone else?

I'd rather be sailing... :-) /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

If someone tried it in the Solent I imagine the sea school boats would be queuing up behind waiting to practice MOB on a live body.

There's a charter company in the Med ( can't remember its name) its advert shows wake boarding behind the yacht being towed from the topping lift !

Topping lift surfing ... it could be all the rage!

Last year one of the Yachtie mags (YM?) had a fantastic cover photo of a guy waterskiiing behind one of the huge French multihulls, doing maybe 20 kts.

He was probably using a kitesurf board which planes much earlier than a wakeboard because it is flatter. Having a halyard from the mast also simulates the pull of a kite - the upwards lift also helping you plane at lower speeds.

Think I'll take my own kiteboard and give it a go.

I saw this once, some years ago during the Fleet Anchor in Osborne Bay of one of YM's Classic Yacht Rallies.. Amazingly the tow boat was a Twister!!!!! It caused quite a stir

This was Patrice Martin behind Primagaz. He became European champion at the age of 14 and now, at 37, he still is. And has 12 world titles to his credit.

Erm yes! When my 22 year old and 11 year old get together all sorts of nonsense like this takes place..

A boat full of lads from Liverpool gave it a try on our flotilla this May. Think they should have picked someone a bit more sober and they might have been more successful! But think it was a doomed effort as they were using the boarding (AKA scaffolding) plank.
