Tinkering down at the marina this morning and as sun was shining we decided to pootle down to Dorney Lake for lunch. Moored up and was in the galley when I was almost knocked off my feet as what felt like a small tsunami hit the side of the boat. Came up on deck to see the stern of the culprit disappearing rapidly upstream leaving a foot high wake.

That would have been bad enough but then my other half informed me that she was sporting a large "Helm under instruction" sign. If that is what new boaters are being taught is acceptable then heaven help us.

Fairly sure I saw the same boat heading upstream in Staines. Was travelling at speed and made the rowers shout a lot. In fairness I agreed with the rowers. Did not get boat name but was decent looking sports cruiser.

So possibly came out of Penton Hook, Bates Wharf or Shepperton.

I can't find her listed either with a broker or as previously having a Thames registration so I'm guessing she is brand new.

99.9% sure plates sais Walton Bridge. Ony saw plate for a split second as it flashed by. We were heading downstream at the time

Firstly

This chap has nothing to do with me and cant pronounce has name right...

Secondly each trade plate has a number and each dealer, yard, user of the plate will have a plate thats numbered and paid for by them.

Without the number nobody on here has any right to start saying which yard it was from.

Could be anyone.....

ooooh stereotyping and invented 'facts', all in so few words.
An aptromyn.
Hmmm ... a stranger from out of town (Largs) using posh words ( "aptromyn") possibly incorrectly by my quick research on wikipedia, who says you wont be rude to us if we're not rude to you - and on top of that your profile says you're a scientist - all before 9 in the morning :D

Not fair of you to pick on Oldgit in this way, have a go at someone more your own weight like No_Regrets or Apollo........

In my defence

First - Wiki on 'aptronym'; "An aptronym is a name aptly suited to its owner." That is precisely what I meant. (posh? if only you knew me :o )

Second - rudeness - Yes, perhaps a little blunt, but I was responding to what I regarded as an unwarranted slur on '99%' of sportscruisers.

Not sure what I am or the time had to do with it, but they are accurate enough. :) I'll try and behave in future. That's as much as I can hope. :)

Seriously Dude, as an Ex Sportscruiser owner (Never again, at least on the Upper Thames) the things are not good news to conservation-loving Boaters.

It's not a slur, it's fact!

Thats why I sold mine...
