Wake from larger boats... non issue or safety concern?

Onsea......... I am sure you are just being gently facetious on the matter at hand.

Yes and no.... If you read my posts my comments are about the Mobos that plough around at the mouths of rivers or doing there best allowed speed in rivers pulling large washes (to get out the river 1 minute quicker) where people are on deck doing work..

Open waters I do not care to much unless they pass close enough there wash still has white horses on it (think 10-15m)..... I have raced dinghy's and yachts taught sailing in various places, sailed the Clyde and other commercial rivers ship washes and large vessel washes are actually easier to deal with than some of the Mobos in the Solent.

I have sailed Chitchester, Poole and Portsmouth and to be honest we just cannot be bothered going back because of the washes Mobos and general attitude of people afloat....

At the mouths of rivers you can be heading in and the Mobo coming out (or the one over taking you or the one crossing etc etc) randomly decides now is the moment to try and get on the plane passing feet away throwing you all over...

Or bowling in the river of a night on the plane whilst your coming back ashore in the dinghy a near misses to many on that and I either stayed on board or got ashore before dusk, I am not talking about wash for near misses there...

For me sailing is something I do for pleasure and the freedom, no longer the social side. I still wave at passing boats (some times twice) as much to see how they will react rather than to receive a wave back.

Its only a few complete w*&kers that I am commenting on mostly the rest of the washes cause little more than annoyance....

Yet they the attitudes prevailing have tainted the sport I grew up with...

The Solent is incredible. Apart from the med it's the only place in the World where you'll see giant 53ft Fairlines anchored up a creek in a nature reserve. In some ways it's amazing and other ways it's completely vulgar and heartless.

If you pick the time and place, the Solent can be delightful and deserve its reputation as the nation's finest sailing waters. A quiet evening in Lymington or Newtown, or even a racing day during Cowes Week can be very enjoyable, and yet on other occasions it can be infuriating and progress frustrating in the cut-up waters.

nations finest sailing waters.....hummm.when I spent ten years sailing there all I ever met was peeps trying to get to the west country .some even made it .honest

Luck? What about the possibility that the driver may not have elected to travel at that speed had there been a risk of someone being in the firing line? Personally I don't know enough about the operation of high speed motor boats to comment whether what they were doing was reckless or not, but the bottom line is they did't involve anyone else in their mistake did they.

The driver involved his 2 passengers, one of whom had little to no experience of high speed operations in that type of boat, and both of whom were entirely reliant on his judgement.

And both of whom were perfectly capable of making decisions around their personal safety. As far as I am aware neither of them has subsequently said "I told him to slow down". Please see my post on the other thread about Safety for a full explanation on personal responsibility....

Anyhow, my post was in response to the suggestion it was lucky he didn't wipe anyone else out.

Apparently someone has found waves on the sea.

Really I am surprised always thought the Solent was like a millpond
