I have dismantled the ram and found the two seals on the center piece on the shaft are both cracked.
This could explain the new problem of the rudder slowly moving to a center position due to the flow of water pushing the rudder while under sail.

My question is to get the new seals on it seems they would have to be stretched excessively.
The center piece on the shaft looks like it is one piece and there is a pin securing it to the shaft.
If I were to remove the pin would I find out that it is really two pieces thus allowing the new seals to be installed easily?

I have a drawing from Wagner that doesn´t really show this part clearly.
Any help would be great.

regards,
Shane

If this is the one it does not look like it but it looks that the seals just need to stretch over a lip on the piston.

Hi,
Thanks for the quick reply.
Right now the boat is not usable until the ram is repaired.

That´s the drawing I have but the center piece is different.

I attached a photo of mine with one of the old seals removed.
Maybe I need to heat the seals to make them more flexible?

regards,

Shane

Looks like there is a screw thread at the bottom of the upper seal groove. This may be clearer with a look on the top side of the piston.

To close this thread I tracked down a tech who knew wagner products, he told me the seals can stretch over without damage.
They did, and the ram is back together.
