Hi,
My query is regarding my weaco cf18 portable fridge/freezer running times which are as follows.
Out side box temp 22c inside box temp 3c, when chilled down to temp ,the fridge motor will run for 40 secs then cuts off for 6 mins this gose on 24H day/ night.
Could any one advise me as to whether this is the norm or is my fridge faulty / over active ?.
Thanks for any response or advise on these waeco fridge motor running times.

I am going to the boat tomorrow, i will up the stat ,warmer, check the times , and see what it dose ,thanks for the idea, will report tomorrow night.

Yes it is the ratio of on to off time which determinnes current used and fridge efficacy. The actual time off and on will depend on the hysteresis
of the thermostat and the load in the fridge. Obviously a very full fridge will not change temp as quickly as an empty one.
It doesn't sound bad to me if it is empty but if it is full the cycling is a bit rapid. A new or another electronic thermostat with adjustable hysteresis could improve the on and off times by pulling down to a lower temp then allowing to rise to a higher temp before turning on.

good luck olewill

We have one of these fridges - on anything but 'low power' and 'min operation' it freezes everything inside (we did creep up to may 25% power when we had it in the car in Italy last summer in 35C heat!)

On this low temperature setting (which keeps it around 3 or 4C) ours only runs for 30 seconds every 10 minutes or so - but this is once its full and got everything inside it down to temperature - when you put warm stuff in it works a lot harder.

One point to mention with them - they are excellent generally - is that the lid seal isn't that good, and if the lid isn't sealed well it will use a lot more power - make sure the rubber seal bit on the lid is good and maybe think about replacing it?

Thanks for your comments on this matter, tried my fridge stat on a warmer setting today which seemed to work ok ,with empty inside box temp 12 c with ambient temp 22 c fridge motor runs for 48 secs and off for 11mins 30 secs so i would say the stat works ok just that with my normal inside box temp of 3c the fridge motor cuts in every 6 mins which is annoying especially at night when trying to sleep.
Maybe one of those insulation jacket for the fridge and keep it well stocked with beers will help ? .
Thanks again for comments any more please add.
David.

David, we have a 25, in 32 degrees ext, and 3 internal, it will cycle at around 15 mins in the hour. you definitely seem to have an issue. Check with waeco, drop them an email. as said above, the lid seal is fairly important, but you may well have had a coolant leak from the danfoss unit which would cause similar issues. this would be unusual though. what voltage do you have actually at the fridge, might be worth checking, they really are superb devices.

Thanks Joe ,thats interesting about your fridge motor on times , those times i could live with. I have the fridge box in the house now doing further tests full box Vs empty box. Sent waeco uk two emails earlier this year which they did not bother to reply to , looks like i may have to get in touch with them again third time lucky as they say.
