I think I have a problem with my VSR

I have standard set up of starter battery and house battery connected through VSR. both batteries have voltmeters on them

The starter battery shows 14.6 v when engine is running but the vsr never seems to switch to charging the house battery which has now dropped to 11.6v.

Is this likely to be a faulty VSR?

What charges the house battery? You could switch the vsr to prioritize it to see what difference it makes but, as said, it sounds like the vsr is faulty.

Mine went a month ago, would not charge house battery unless I gave it a donk with a pair of grips. Then it would charge both. I had a spare as it had played up before but that was a loose connection to the house battery, the nut on the back of the VSR has vibrated loose over the years. But not this time. It was as if there was a sticky switch in there. Anyway replaced it and all is now well.

You could try connecting a wire across the large terminals of the VSR. This should bypass the VSR and most likely get voltage on house battery to come up. If it doesn't you have a failure of fuse or wiring. If it does fix then yopu have a failure of the VSR itself (give it a bash) or of the wiring to operate it. Check the negative as said. ol'will
