No, but I do use VPN when on the boat. A quick Google search suggested that Android has a VPN client built-in but it doesnt support SSL protocol, if you need that you'll need an app.

Hotspot Shield offers a free one. You can get it via the Play Store. If using Chrome as a browser, remember to "Block pop-ups". Works with uTorrent client too.
