I keep hearing about VPNs, ie sites can't identify where you are or you can pretend to be in a different location. I was thinking about using one for using BBC iPlayer in europe. Does anyone else do this and which version do you use. I realise l will have to pay for this but as we are sailing for two months from July it might be worth it for those rainy, cold nights in Denmark!

ProtonVPN is good, so are many others. However, a lot of services block access from a VPN in general because it bypasses their geofencing and they don't like that. I don't know if the BBC has joined this group yet, but if not it's probably just a matter of time. I believe Amazon has and Netflix is about to.

Geofencing is an extremely silly practice that drives mobile customers to cancel their now useless subscriptions, so amongst people travelling a lot and/or with intermittent internet access, an ancient nautical tradition is popular. You're not required to have a peg leg, eyepatch, hook or parrot, although a spare USB flash drive or external hard disk are very useful. You may even make new friends in the process!

NordVPN gives access to iPlayer, UK tv channels and radio. We don’t watch much tv but we’ve used it for nearly a year, mainly for radio, and it’s been excellent.

I even used it at home last winter to watch the Ashes series in Australia - although I wish I hadn’t … ☹️

Good results with Nord, usually gets me iPlayer. Occasionally need to disconnect and refresh things. Sign up for monthly, then cancel when done.
