VP290 Oil

Fair play Bruce. I’m not doubting you’re right about them. Just asking if there was a cross over period. Mainly because I’m almost sure that the dpd or dpe perhaps might not have been available in 1989 perhaps ? Haven’t checked but I thought they were later and from the mid 90’s. The drive on my 89 sealine and the 90/91 princess are certainly original. They certainly had the top end form and cover of the dpd and dpe that were pictured above.
only asking for the sake of interest, not argument.
All the best.

The KAD 42 came out in 1991. It had DPD's on

What I've heard so cant claim to be true is the DP-D onwards was developed for higher torque diesels. The differences between DP-D through to DP-E are minor and parts are interchangeable. I know as I have had mine repaired, rebuilt, reconditioned ad nauseum they have become effectively DP-E which started manufacture circa 1995. The differences were in the lower gearbox drive shafts and cone assemblies. One drive in that respect runs the DP-E lower gear assembly while the other is still DP-D. (shafts are thicker, cone locking bolt different size etc) So parts are interchangeable to some degree. Whether that was true of the earlier drives I guess so. But I very much doubt that extended to upper case covers etc. Though I also hear mating upper to different lowers were possible. I viewed a old Sunseeker that had what I was told a 280 upper mated to a 290 lower (true or not I could not say but the owner was eager to impress me with this sanctioned upgrade) Unless you bought an old boat like I did where changes were made as replacement for no longer available parts I would be extremely sceptical that it came from OEM that way. If the latter story is true, who knows how many might of jumped on this "upgrade". But as before. I'd be sceptical if it came OEM or from manufacturer this way. I'd imagine warranties alone would be worthless.
