The thread in the fuel filter housing has stripped. At the mo the bleed screw is held in with the help of some PTFE tape. So do I tap the housing for the next size and put in a plain bolt/set screw or helicoil the housing to accommodate the proper bleed screw? Or can I get a larger bleed screw?

Or something else that doesn't involve a King's ransom for a new housing?

(For those that don't know - the bleed screw has an angled slot in the side. I can't easily see that design googling)

It's easily done - when I did it I replaced the top plate, but now I think you can only buy the complete filter at close to £100!

I'd think tapping and putting a bigger screw in is a sound way forward. You can easily cut a slot in a new screw.

I'll be replacing my blown up VP2002 shortly, It punched a con rod out through the crankcase, but I'm sure the fuel filter housing is OK, and will be the same as the VP2003. It's out in Greece, but I'm planning to bring a few saleable bits back in early June. I don't know what the housing is worth, so make me an offer if you're interested.

That sounds great. Will PM you.

I had the same problem this summer with VP2002. Engine stopped mid channel! Managed to get it going and thought it OK but more problems at Guernsey. Symptoms were engine would run if screw was weeping fuel, but if tightened as much as it would go air leaked in.

A very helpful man from Guernsey's Marine and General Engineers fitted a helicoil and it now works with the original screw.

I don't understand this. The fuel is under pressure in the engine filter, so how can air leak in?

Yes good point. Maybe leaked air when engine not running and took a while for air bubble to get to engine after restart? I just found that if it was weeping it would run longer, but wife didn't like the smell in cabin. Whatever, it needed fixing!
