Hi All

wonder if any one can help. I have, I think later panel for the 2001 VP engine with the turn key starter switch (like a car)

any how I had a faulty alternator and no charging lamp and had a continuous tone with ignition on/ no spinning engine, which when running tone went away, this seemed right to me bar the poor charging

now with the new alternator charging great and a full house of lamps I do not get a tone, and all lamps go out as they should, alarm test works ok.

its just seemed right to me when I had the old alternator that I had the continuous tone until start up and it was also nice when pulling stop handle to have the nudge from alarm to turn ignition off.

any how what is the correct sequence of events regards a 1986 vp panel with turn key wired to the 2001 vp diesel

cheers Dave

thanks superheat

I have all the alarms when I earth oil and temp wires and all 3 lamps come on and go off so I'm happy with panel and got a new symbol label from keypart for £8 and cleaned it up so panel looking like new , i was just wondering if there should be a alarm for ignition on with out engine running as it did when alternator was u/s. I,m guessing when alternator was down it let the oil or temp wire go to ground when ignition on?

The alarm is sounded by the Temperature overheat alarm and Low Oil pressure, but not the temperature lamp only when at start up, nor the alternator field. At start the lack of oil pressure causes the alarm.

If the alternator fails both Temp & Ignition will illuminate, but the alarm does not sound.
