Does anyone have any ideas of somewhere where I can get hold of a VP EDC display?

Alternatively does anyone have any ideas on another product which might show the same data?

I'm mainly after fuel burn rate - not because I care about how much fuel I'm burning per se but I've got an extremely small fuel tank (160 litres) so this will really help me keep an eye on fuel usage.

sorry, cannot really help but hearing all the VP prices, wouldn't it be more sensible to invest the 3-5hundred quid (just guessing!) on an extra diesel tank somewhere in the bilges?
just saying!

cheers

V.

Blimey yes that’s a tad expensive!!

When I first got the boat it only had a 130L tank which was a bit ropey so replaced it last year and got one made on advice from my engineer and managed to get another 30L. I just don’t have any space for additional fuel so will just have to stick to my 3 20L Jerry cans if needs be.

What you might be able to do is get your engine to transmit the data used for fuel burn to your chart plotter. This would require electronic trickery and someone who knows what they are doing.

I have tried to look at this before but it all got too complicated for me. I have a Raymarine e7d and apparently it’s supposed to be able to receive data via NMEA but as I say I got lost. Probably price wise again it would end up not being worth it if it’s more than a few hundred quid.

The critical thing is what evc version you have.

As far as I know only evc b and above have fuel data. Evc a does not ( I have evc a)

If it does support it you need an nmea interface box from volvo and maybe a software update

I have my box to jimmy the builder. I never got it to work. He just plugged it in !!

If it works your plotter will show fuel consumption etc

Good luck

My KAD 44 is too old for EVC - It’s EDC so will only take a specific display. I know the data is available as I’ve been on board when an engineer has plugged a laptop in to the ecu and a whole load of parameters was shown.

Cheers

Make sure that whole load includes fuel flow

A vodia plugged into mine shows all sorts ... but not fuel flow !

I have twin KAD 44's and the vodia does show fuel flow when engineer has his plugged in .

Up to 30 knots its not too bad but at WOT it gets scary

Any idea what the burn rate is on yours at say 3100 / 3200 rpm?

From memory at WOT 3800 its 57 litres per hour. per engine But then I am doing 47knots

3000rpm is giving me around 30knots

with a variety of speeds I average around 2.5nautical miles per gallon,
