Hi!

Got a Sealine T52 with twin D12-675. According to VP manual it should have approx 44 liters (actually says approx) when mounted flat, and 33 liters when mounted with a 8 degree angle. Was down and measured my engine install with the cellphone and according to two different apps the mount angle is 6 degrees.

Any idea on what that means in oil level when we do oil change in a couple of weeks? Should I draw a graph with 44 liters at 9 degrees and 33 liters at 8 degrees and look at 6 degrees to see where the line crosses the liters ? Also does the engine manufacturers recommendation end up in the middle of the stick or at the top of the stick? I assume the oilsticks markings are only correct when the engine is mounted leveled ?

Sealine didnt bother to write anything in its standard manual for the Sealine T52, not that I've found atleast.

We had much the same problem with our Ford Sabres, they were at an angle of about 15, and we filled up to the level mark on the dip stick which is mounted near the front of the engine, consequently we were over filling, due the stick not being calibrated, we eventually found the problem, by draining as much as we could out, then adding the makers stipulated amount, then marked the stick accordingly, not had any probs yet and this has been for the last 15 years. Suggest you drain and refill with the lesser amount then dip it, if it's on the stick then it should be ok? or add small amounts until you are happy. If overfilled you may have oil leaks or blow by.

Yeah - tell me about oilleaks if overfilled, the VP engineer that serviced the engines when we purchase the boat did, I suspect, topfill on the stick and if so, didnt think of the engine mount angle. Why do I supect this? Since the first 7 hour trip over the channel at cruising speed resulted in a black oily floor underneath the engines ... And the stick at half full on one of the engines compared to the other that wasnt that low :-)
