Any idea why you have to use glow plugs for 10 seconds every time you start one of these engines . I had to start it quick today to avoid the putty as my echo sounder has packed up and it started first turn. Not sure I can see the reasoning.
 
Usually glowplugs are used for starting a cold engine,when the engine is warm usually starts without any heat.
 
We have a D1-13 (twin cylinder, but same series) and the only time you wait 10 Seconds is after first power up after switching the control panel on? If you leave the panel "live" it starts straight up without glowplug warming. Are you powering down the whole unit after stopping the engine? If you are, its not necessary, the hour meter only registers actual engine running time and not the "on" time. Great engine, no issues with ours since it was fitted in 2012 but it has only 190 Hours on it since it was installed!

However with later versions of the engine, with the EVC control panel, the preheating is automatic and only operates if the engine temperature is below 50C

Mine is 2015. So not that old I'm sure it says glow plugs every start. But I'm not now as I've had plenty of deisels over the years and only use glow plugs if cold. It doesn't come on auto .
 
I also had a 2015 D1 30 with the EVC control panel and automatic glow plugs. Never really needed to full 20 seconds except in the middle of winter. Most times, like yours it would start instantly.

If you don’t fully power down I think the the engine ventilation fan will stay on.
