Does anyone know the cure for a lumpy running 145?
The fuel is good, new breakers, dizzy cap, rotor arm but it will not run smoothly below 1100 RPM. Although a 1985 engine, it only has 1200 hours. It doesn't burn oil and has had an easy life on the Thames.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You did not mention plugs. Have you got the right plugs for the engine and if so are they in good order - try cleaning and re-gapping them.

Have you checked the advance/retard mechanism on the distributor. Thats the little spring loaded weights in the body of the distributor which move out as rpm increases to advance the timing. If they are stuck in the advance position, the timing will be OK at higher revs but wrong at tickover. You need to strip dist to check.

Finally, check that all your HT leads have good clean connections.

I had a Fairline Mirage once with AQ125's which are similar engines. Its no consolation, but no matter what I did, these engines just would not run reliably at tickover when cold. They were fine once fully warmed up. It meant coming out of the marina was a bit fraught as they would pack up just when you needed that little burst of ahead or astern!

Good luck!
