Hi all
Can anybody tell me please how to recallibrate a Volvo dph leg
I have an élan 42 fitted with a pair of Volvo d350 hp diesels
I disconnected the wires on the pump then when I refitted the wire
The trim switch won't move the leg. I have been told it now needs recallibrating
So hopefully someone can explain to me how I can do it

I'm not sure what you mean the boat is a 2006 model fitted with a pair of d6 volvos .
I have never had a boat with legs before so I'm not up to speed on them yet
But I can look up what you are asking once I know what you mean
The boat is also moored in Brighton

Hi Stuart

Evc comes in various revisions. As a 2006 boat with d6-350's my guess would be that yours is either evc-b2, or evc-c. What info do you get on the lcd display in the rev counters?

I've never needed to recaliberate anything after disconnecting and reconnected the pump on any model of EVC.

Sure it's all reconnected correctly?
Why was it disconnected?
 
According to my local vp dealer, the drives can lose their limit settings and need to be recalibrated. It's certainly the case that when one of my trim relays developed an intermittent fault, the evc would refuse to control the trim until it was recalibrated.

Don't you have a manual? It'll be in there. If you don't have one i'd guess you can download them from the VP UK website.

Yes i do have a manual on the boat but this only explains hoy you can reset the leg after it has been hit and knocked out of position
But does not tell you how to recalibrate it. i can probably use a volvo agent to do this for me but i would prefer to know how to do it myself.
To answer jimmys question i will have to return to the boat and post the imformation
on the forum and see if any one can help

What I was getting at is - do your rev counters just show engine hours, or have you got an alphanumeric display with a scroll wheel so you can access other engine data?

Hi jimmy
The rev counters show all different imformation by turning a scroll wheel on a small unit that also allows you to select neutral
this small window in the tacho at the moment has a message in it saying drivetrain fault
There is also a warning triangle on the dashboard flashing amber
The wires have been refitted correct

Aha - this would suggest evc-c. The calibration procedure is documented in the evc installation instructions - have a look at the last page of this document:

I don't know this for sure, but it could be that the fault is because you need to do the trim calibration - did you power the evc up while the trim pump was disconnected?

Having said all that, given that there is a fault, for the sake of £50 I'd get Neil down from SSL/Feltons and get him to plug his vodia tool in.

many thanks for your last post,I have printed off the 5 pages of info like you suggested and after reading it i will give it i try and see if i can do it but to be honest if feltons are prepared to do it i think this will be my best option.
I did power the pump after i disconected it as i was advised at the time this would make the leg raise higher to allow me to change the props.the starboard side works fine but the portside developed this fault when it was reconnected

The sensor corrodes, reach down not easy pull off the plug try and spay electrical cleaner on plug, not wd40 refit plug and try, this usually works, sensors don't usually fail. If you have already gone into re calibration mode it may still not work if terminals are corroded. Sensor is a most stupid design as is low in bilge area where water slope about, plugs are not waterproof either, yet another great design to come out of Sweden!
 
Ok Paul I shall check the connections as well on Tuesday when I go back down to the boat and hopefully from what you and Jimmy have advised me the problem will be solved
