I discovered a relay clicking behind my dash, discovered the relay is related to the leg trim, replaced the relay but it's made no difference the new relay is also clicking like mad

When the relay is clicking there's a red led illuminating on the trim adjustment control unit and I'm unable to trim the leg up.

Has anyone encountered this problem & found a diagnosis please

What is your trim gauge reading, it sounds like the sender is at the 'beach' or higher position which then cuts out the up trim button and you then use the secondary button to trim higher. This is so you don't trim too high under power and lose drive and steering. I would check the calibration of the trim sender first then go from there.

Now you mention it one of the gauges isn't reading correctly (can't remember which one ) so I'll check there first

I've only had the boat for a couple of months now. All my previous boats have had mercruiser legs which as you know have separate senders for trim gauge & actual trim limit/trailer mode. I'd assumed volvo was the same!

Thanks for your help

If it's a SX-DPS drive then the problem is the trim sender. The earlier ones ( used with trim limit control box) were notoriously unreliable, so much so they dropped both of them and went to a simpler sender that only indicates trim. Not much better, lasting at best 3 years or so in salt water.

To gain access to my trim sender I'm gonna have to remove turbo inlet elbow, crank breather etc etc. Due to this I might as well replace the sender.

I don't have any documentation on the outdrives, only for the engines! With the boat in the water I can't check for serial no's.

Would anybody hazard a guess what drives I have? The boat is a 1999 MY with volvo kad 32's. The outdrives are duo prop
