Hi Guys,
Im looking at a 05 CY44 with twin TAMD75s on V drive
Im a Cummins fan and dont mind Caterpillar and Yanmar.
Quite frankly Volvo scares the living!@#$% out of me.
Any thoughts on These model engines would be greatfully appreciated

Regards David

Why would Volvo scare you?
There are dealers all over the place (in the UK?) and spares are readily available.
TAMD75 has a good reputation generally - as usual, check for leaks, heat exchangers / coolers /service history etc.

Having a Cat engine tied to a single supplier (Finning) would be a lot scarier imho.

05 ,s will be stuffed with VP electrotwackery.
I looked at a boat around that age with them the 75 p iirc ?Wife rather liked the layout.
Passed on it .
It was handily just a few berths down from us a immaculately presented Riviera 42 ?something . On local brokerage in the marina .
How ever the dealer in Port Grimaud, ( we went to see a few more , to get a yardstick) ,the highly regarded Villanova bros who have that yard in St Tropez , you know next to the tourist trap eatery ..advised me to seek a Cummins or older CAT version .
As it happens we went with the Itama brand , mostly MAN a few MTU .Dealer in Gogolin down the road .

How ever the Riviera sold and stayed put .
So I walked by it for 5 years and “ watched it “ as we had once crawled all over it when in the market .
No regrets as it’s engine cover , the whole upper cockpit was up more often than not .
VP engineers always on it and many blue boxes of parts on the quay .Not talking reg service items either btw !

Sometimes they were phaffing with the EDC throttles , other times deep inside with what looked looms , or boxes attached to wiring being replaced .
1 of 1 .
Glad we missed that one .

I heard lots of horror stories surrounding Volvos. Have twin Cummins QSB380s at the mo and love them to bits. But that's on my Sea Ray SD 400 which is on the market soon to be sold.

Im in new Zealand and lots of Cummins, Caterpillar, Yanmar.
AND Volvo parts which happen to be pricey down this neck of the woods.

Ive heard horror and nightmare stories about <2012 Volvo IPS drives too

Thanks for that, I guess its a generalisation, but it seems VP get more than there fair share of horror stories.
If these TAMD75's are ok, then the 2005 CY 44 stacks up quite nicely.
