volvo tamd41b help, manuals/inj pump info .princess 30 ds,circa 1989

Glad your efforts have paid off Bob, and thanks for posting your updates, always good to know the outcome to the initial issue which gets posted. Roll on the summer and higher temps for even better results.

Are you exhaust restrictors working? they are there to help to reduce smoke on start up. There is a reset button on the black box atop of each engine.

Is the same setup used on a tmd41b? Can't find any mention in manuals.

TIA

Great thread and thanks for the update ! Im looking at a brichwood 31 commodore myself with a TAMD40a, its spewing black smoke on acceleration, owner is changing the cylinder head and we will see what happens. (At least its not white smoke ! Black is usually a good sign :D )
The temperature in Egypt is much much hotter (we hit 40-45 in summer sometimes!) so its kinda of strange reading about winterisation and cold startup problems!

The TAMD40a's are the same engines on FL 4 Volvo truck and if i am not mistake interchangeable in most parts, does help if you have a local volvo parts close by ...

Best of luck ..

Hi,
All info of 41a's will confirm that these are 41a and they are well known for being smokey on start up.
We do have the pump settings and can post them for you , but assuming they are intercooled to 200 hp at 3900 revs .?.
Sadly even with a rebuild , it's not cost effective to rebuild as a B set up , because not only are the pistons and liners different , but so is the pump setting, the injector nozzles and the break pionts . Search around the net , I was recently offered a pair of great 41b engines for £4000 each , I did not buy , so they might help !!
Regards Paul
