so had a viewing today on a boat with an oil leak from the dip stick holder ,the dip stick was just above the sump is this normal ,the engines looked clean all over but there was oil in the bilge ,the guy said it was from when he had the oil changed ,but would you not clean it up if you were selling the boat.ps it has done 290 hours thanks for the replies roy

It’s a common fault on both the 63 and 74/75 it’s engine out and sump off to sort the leak because the securing nut that holds the tube in is on the inside of the sump pan .

Try this search - ybw.com d6 in google. The search engine on the forum isn’t the best.

We have D6-330 engines. Lovely smooth and not stressed to the maximum.

I’ve repaired plenty of these dipstick tube oil leaks. Yes the dipstick aluminium holder is fitted through the sump, but the leak is normally between the aluminium holder and the steel tube. The tube is pressed into the aluminium housing and gets loose over time.
To repair, pump out about 10 let’s of oil and pull the tube out. Clean, sand and degrease the two surfaces and refit using some sealer. I mortally use sikaflex and haven’t had any start leaking again yet.
