The seawater pump on my 2010 Volvo engine has a small leak from the back of the pump.
Has anyone successfully repaired this pump, or is a complete new pump required at close to £400.
There is a seal at the back of the pump that can be replaced, but this may have been damaged by the pump shaft.

I ordered a service kit for my 41P which includes a shaft seal. Although I gave the engine details the seal was the wrong diameter so suggest you remove and measure first. Easy job but you need a press so not a job to do on board I think.

On my old sailboat with a Yanmar 3YM20 engine I did this very job. Not too difficult, but be careful with the shaft. Once the seals were replaced the small leak I stopped immediately.

It is quite simple to service the pump or go to Parts4engine.com for a full replacement @ £260. Keypart have service kits BUT identify the right pump: is it a 2010, 2010B etc and the right pump for the series. That apart stripping the pump apart is simple. Needs a pair of circlip pliers. Once stripped it is easy to see if the shaft needs to be replaced; you'll see and feel a wear. If none, just seals which Keypart have.

Find a twin lip seal on eBay. One with a stainless spring instead of the mild steel one which disintigrates. Lips on the new seal also run in slightly different place to where original single seal made contact with the shaft, so new seal opeates on undamaged bit of shaft. Did mine a few years ago. Easy peasy, cost pence, not leaked since. I’ll see if I can find a part no.....
