I intend to replace the lower seal on the prop shaft of my sail drive. Has anybody done this before, and if yes. What special tools do I need?
Does the lower gear assembly come out easy, or is it a hammer fit?
Thanks Andrew

No violence necessary.
My tip is to make up a simple threaded bar/bolt puller with a suitable size washer disk to remove the seals and the fixed bearing seating ring (truncated cone) will come out with them.
Be careful not to damage the shims behind the seating ring.
On reassembly use some sealant to bed in the new seals.
If the seating ring does not press in easily, adapt and reverse the puller using a wider diameter steel disk to pull it back in evenly, or have your local engineering workshop press it in for you.

Thanks guys
That has given me the confidence to do the job, and the only special tool I will need is a puller.
Cheers Andrew

When I did mine I just loosely put the prop hub back, when the two bolts had been taken out of the cover, and used it as a slid hammer and the shaft popped strait out.
