Hi, after many years sailing I'm about to convert to a motor boat, the boat I am in the process of buying has a QL BP 300 bow thruster which the surveyor says is leaking fluid from behind the prop.

I find that Volvo have abandoned the QL thrusters and there are now virtually no spares available anywhere. I guess this could be a deal breaker.

Would it be possible to replace the QL BP300 with another thruster retaining the existing tunnel, has anyone done this?

Any other suggestions would be welcome.

I doubt it's something that serious that you need to invest a couple of grand on a new b/t...
Tunnel sizes are more or less standardized, so should be easy if needed. I'd have thought that removal, dismantle and replacing a few seals would be sufficient hopefully at a tenth of the replacement cost (if even that...)

cheers

V.

The BP300 is 132mm, there's no anode on the 300 and can corrode, I have repaired these before if the casings are good, its simple job and seals readily available, as far as I know there's not another thruster that uses that size tube but there's some that are close and will work ok

Hi I have been told by VP dealers that there are no spares available, are the seals a standard size, where do you source them from?

Cheers
