Hi all,

Does any know if this part - 842766 is just standard wet exhaust hose? Mine looks a little collapsed and want to I want to replace it. The Volvo part is over 300 euros but assuming it is standard 203mm exhaust I can get a much cheaper replacement from ASAP (Seaflow Marine Wet Exhaust Hose).

Thanks in advance.

D.

Cheers - I sent them an email. I also ordered the exhaust hose to compare. I can always send it back if not needed.

Just done the job.
Replacement hose from ASAP was much cheaper than OEM, hose is slightly smaller OD.
Your existing clamps may be OK but had to buy a couple of smaller replacements to stop weeping hose hull joint.
New hose was considerably more flexible, and easier to fit round bulkheads.
Old hose was impossible to bend and had to be cut into sections with a grinder.
Stinky and filthy job cover everything to save cleaning entire engine bay from bits of rubber .Dab of CT1 on joint prevents any leaks

Hi oldgit.

Ta for the reply. Couple of questions:

1) Did you get the 203mm stuff. Was it bigger or the OEM bigger?
2) The ASAP stud seems to have a ribbed nature to it. Did this cause any problems with clamping?
3) Why did you change yours? Did it improve anything performance wise?

Cheers!

new stuff has smaller OD
Ribbing no problem.
Fellow boater noted outside of hose was "dry" and had a few surface cracks, then gave dire warnings of sudden failure, filling boat with water and smoke :(

Having removed hose with some difficulty and much bad language, the middle and inner layers of course appeared to be in very good condition indeed.

Fair enough.

Better to be safe than sorry I guess. My hose looks like it has been ran dry at some stage and has deformed a little. I'll give myself an afternoon with beer to tackle it then based on your experience!

The hose you refer to is the body of the silencer not the actual exhaust hose which is what I think the post has is drifting to and as such is a different make up
I don’t remember what the build of this hose is but the 45mm version appears to be non reinforced as I recall which is why I suggested Portmere rubber
I don’t think that exhaust hose would be suitable as it’s too stiff to seal properly

Hey Scottie.

I ordered the ASAP stuff and compared it to the Volvo hose. Both appear to be reinforced. Volvo stuff even more so. It is 3 layered with wire reinforcing in the middle. I will see what the rubber folk come back with.

Portmere rubber got back to me. They are offering reinforced exhaust hose for the application.

Hand Built Marine Diesel Exhaust Hose -
Liner: SBR - Reinforcement: Textile & Wire - Outer: SBR
1 mtr long x 203mm ID x 12mm wall - @ £194.80/per mtr

I did tell them exactly what it was for and gave them the part number. Looks like the half meter lengths from ASAP are the way ahead. We will see...
