I am having a very bad day indeed.
My trim pump is of a style that seems to be no longer available.
It has been given several different part numbers, but those in the know will reqognize it by my description.
It is mounted to a plate containing its solenoids by 3 bolts.
It has integral reservoir with a forward facing filler/ level checker.
3 wires out of the top.
Forward facing fluid lines.
My problem is that a spring has broken in the pump, and the drive now goes where it wants.
Nobody seems to have a solution to my problem, that is without forking out huge sums of my hard earned.
Have any other forum members had experience, or know a way forward, before I depart to the pub to drown my sorrows.

The pump body for DP/E is showing as "no longer produced" - I have no idea what owners are supposed to do if one is damaged - cobble together another with cardboard and sticky tape?
Valves should still be available.

Found part on e bay other side of pond for 129 dollars, Which seems too good to be true. Any body out there gone down this route?
Trickett Marine Poole are trying to source me one £ 220.
All I need is a spring!! Going to the pub anyway.
 
Can you get to the spring ? There s a firm in west London (Hayes, Uxbridge or Southall ) I used to use called Small Order Springs. Haven't used them in a while but they can make almost any spring.

Yes, I have looked at the spring replacement option, but in the end I think that the e bay item will have to be purchased.
My boat gets a lot of regular use, so needs a permanant fix, and I am fed up of the fluid all over the floor in the engine room.
At least I will have a spare motor, should I ever have need of one...

Excluding the VP SXA transom assembly type pumps, which are in the water on the outer transom shield ( what a bonkers idea!), virtually any trim pump/ reservoir will work. They are self contained, with the pump, motor, relays and fuse mounted on a metal bracket. They all pump oil one way to raise and the other way to lower the outdrive.
 
Hi, the compression springs are replaceable and adjustable (for pressure) independently. Just a faff to get it set correctly as you have to keep taking the reservoir off, adjusting the pressure on the spring and putting back together again. I'd start by taking a good spring (count the # of turns as you undo the retaining bolt) and the broken one to your local hydraulics guy. Either he can help you or will know a man that can.
 
Have several times ordered secondhand VP outdrive stuff from USA.Either pay by Paypal or use your credit card.Remember it can take a week or two to arrive and that import duty and VAT will be added to cost of goods and carriage.
Never had any problems with anything purchased, rang seller direct of confirm it was the bit I wanted and to give them my card no.

Why is it that despite dust storms, hurricanes, earth quakes, tornados, al keida, they still have a load of blokes in sheds producing aftermarket parts for all sorts of applications, at really competitive prices. come on Blighty, we used to do all this stuff. We missed the boat, by a mile. Why? Was it Health and Safety, Compliance issues, or have we just slipped in to being a nation of shopkeepers.

it's called EU "certificate of conformity" a CE mark probablly required .
Of course we were to leave the EU ---- UKIP it then we will have a level playing field

The manufacturer of 12V trim pumps/ reservoirs etc , which will not be VP themselves, will not make unique CE marked units; they will all be the same, whether for US, European or other territories. All will be CE marked, USCG marked etc. It would be more expensive for them to make unique units for each market area.
 
Thanks for all the info chaps. The Beaurocrats in the EU seem to have stuffed our industrial heritage. Good job we wer nt in the EU or had Health and Safety when Watt invented the Steam Engine, and Brunel built his ships and bridges. We would never have had an Empire, whatever that was. I also have a new best friend in the US called Bill. I have never been a big fan of America, being brought up on the Sweeny, and Callum, rather than Kojak, and The Rockford Files. Bill has shown me that I can get real good service in the good old US of A, and I can throw my old trim motor in the trash.
