My Volvo Penta sail drive throttle/gear lever (photos attached) appears to be missing a part.
There is a button in the centre of the lever pivot point which allows you to operate the throttle without it engaging any gears. The button is missing some form of retaining cover therefore it falls out unless it is taped over. I suspect it should have a rubber cover which holds it in place and allows you to press the button through the rubber. I hope the photos will allow you to identify what I'm talking about.

It is a Lewmar control and you need to buy a little kit which has the plunger, cover and other redundant bits. You will probably have to order it from Bainbridge through a chandler. You get a tube of glue to stick the cover in, although some prefer to use Sika. Make sure everything works before you stick it in then you should have no troubles.

I got mine through the spares dept at Clipper Marine - Bavaria agent.

Here's a tip..

Go round the supermarket knowing the diameter of the missing plastic cover.

You may find a milk bottle or a bottle of sauce or something that will have one that fits as a temporary measure until you obtain the part.

My friends and I call this "Bovrilation".

This is because once on a long and steep hill the cap on the radiator fell off.

I could not get a spare, it was an old car.

At a nearby petrol station I combed the shelves looking for the right candidate. I found it :D on a jar of Bovril!

As I hate Bovril I paid for my purchase, walked off with the cap and gave the jar to the cashier as a gift, to her great astonishment.

It fitted perfectly and remained in use for another 3 years until I sold the car, "Bovrilation included"..:D

I think that it is a morse SL3 control with a non standard handle but the rubber cover is standard

The details above are correct to source it

Hi,
by coincidence I need the black rubber gaitor that goes between the throttle and the GRP. I did rig something up but not very successfully. If you do not need this would be happy to pay a contribution of the cost of the kit for it.
Will p.m. you but no problem if you need it as well
