Volvo Penta Throttle Control

I have just bought a Doral Monticello and am confused about the throttle control. It is a single engine and a side mounted control.

Neutral is pretty much at 12 o’clock but when I put it into reverse the throttle lever moves about 2 inches backwards and then appears to find another neutral, which I then have to use the release button to move it further backwards to increase the revs.

Do you know if this is by design or is it an issue? It is a struggle to use when you are having to do close manoeuvres and the wind is up. Thinking you are in neutral but actually you’re not is no fun when you don’t have time to look at the throttle lever position.

Thanks

Hi Dan - suspect it is problem with your control unit. Get the type of control unit it is, google it to get a parts breakdown and try to ascertain what may be amiss.
