Volvo penta tank calibration?

Oddly, I have this exact same problem right now... I have a 2011 Squadron 55, Volvo D13 900s, and the port fuel tank was intermittently reporting empty.

It's no longer intermittent, and our attempt to recalibrate by filling and failed too - will be interesting to see what EBY discover was at fault....

Locki, your Sq55 is most likely to have a different sort of sender to the 'norm' - if it is a round, yellow sender, connected to a valve at the bottom of the tank (rather than a float sender inserted through the top) then it is most likely of this different type, and will be connected by a phone or modem type plug/cable rather than a simple piece of twin core. This (I believe) sends a pressure reading of the fuel above it to the onboard computer (non Volvo) rather than converting a float in the tank into an Ohms reading. This is then able to supply a fuel level reading to the Fairline instruments (and the filler cap level display if fitted) and also converts the signal to an Ohms value which in turn is sent to the Volvo EVC system. If the Fairline level displays are reading correctly & the Volvo displays are reading incorrectly then it's probably something to do with the Volvo calibration or the signal getting from the Fairline box to the EVC system. If the Fairline gauges are reading intermittently as well as the Volvo ones, then it is the data being supplied to the Volvo system that is at fault, and no amount of recalibrating the EVC system will make a difference!

Sorry to open up an 11 year old thread but this is the first link in Google for this type of problem and I found an easy solution that doesn't involve a computer or emptying the tank. So for the benefit of others like me that are searching for a solution to this problem:

My starboard tank would always read empty and the EVC would not allow any other calibration until I set the empty level first. I know my fuel sender outputs 3 (empty) to 180 Ohms (full) so I went and got a 3 Ohm resistor and placed that in place of the fuel sender. Make sure the power to the engine is off first. Turned on power to the engine and calibrated to empty. Then I turned off the power to the engine and reconnected the fuel sender. When I turned the engine power back on my fuel gauge was perfect. If your fuel sender outputs a different range simply find what the appropriate empty value is and purchase a resistor of that value.
