Hi,

Wonder if anyone can help?
The gearbox oil cooler on my Volva Pants Tamd 60B seems to have died.
Tried lots of things but gearbox oil is being forced out with the raw water.

Has anyone replaced this unit with an after market system?
Been looking at the Bowmans, there are so many types.
I have a sender unit on the old unit as well as the sterling gland feed so need 2 drain plugs for these to be fitted.

Any help of advice would be very helpful!!!

Thanks

This company supplies coolers that are direct replacements for some VP coolers 842240 Volvo Transmission/Gear Cooler

Thanks. Are you sure this is correct website? Can't see anything on there about parts. All about a solo sailer.

Hi just wondering did you get a replacement oil cooler, having the same issue with a tamd60b myself and finding a cooler difficult to source!
Hi, not sure if this is the same as yours but this article, if you scroll a long way down, mentions a Bowman cooler replacement Improvements
"The replacement from Volvo Penta was offered at a ridiculous price so instead I installed replacement tubular coolers from EJ Bowmanan – DC90 units. " Bowman Engine Oil Coolers, DC90 Oil Cooler (28mm Water)

Bowman was very helpful to me. Suggest you call them instead of DIY researching their products.
Appreciate the message I'll do that, my port transcooler is aftermarket and working perfectly but unfortunately there is no markings to source another one to suit the starboard transmission, I'll make some inquirys and leave feed back here thank you.

Based on your confirmation of part DC90-YBB being right, the specs in Bowman catalog are

DC 90-YBB: Weight 1,1 kg , dimensions 310 x 60 x 60, sea water connection pipe 28mm, oil connection thread G½", engine 60kW or 80hp.
Max oil pressure 20 bar. Max water pressure 16 bar. Max temperature 120°C.

Seen at € 226 inside the EU (Osculati's e-shop):
Dc60-ybb / dc90-ybb / dc120-ybb - DC60-YBB

Would enable the hunt for alternatives although I'd be surprised if you find a better offer, factoring all in.

Hi. Not sure if it’s been mentioned previously, but have you checked that it’s not passing oil into the cooling water by means of it’s obvious oil/water interface…as in at the sealing surfaces between the two at the end of the cooler ?
if it’s the same unit that I’m familiar with on our 61’s. It’s the small cylindrical unit called the reverse gear oil cooler. Sits at the rear of the engine and is the last port of call of the raw water cooling system on its way out the back of the boat almost. Feeds the shaft gland cooling and has the small pencil anode in it ? These have end caps and seals on them I’m sure.
Only other reason it’s failed is if the core has corroded right through and passing. But certainly the seals would be the most likely and most optimistic reason. Just a thought.

Thank you for the advice, yes that's the correct name for it, my boat is coming out to be shed stored for the winter so I'll be stripping it off and doing a bit more investigation, I have a replacement one sourced bowman advised an
"ec100-4097-2" which is available through a company in Ireland.
