Volvo Penta Saildrive hub grease

Last year, for the first time, I needed a puller to remove the hub. It was 'sticky' all the way along the shaft.

For this season, I cleaned off all the old sticky grease and applied new propeller grease ... and again the grease had glued the hub to the shaft.

My question is what to do next year. Just engine oil or perhaps Volvo penta stern gland grease? What is everyone else using?

JUst using the normal VP stuff but are you sure you're not over torqueing it? IIRC mine is 70nm - When i first got the boat i needed the yard to get the hub off - They thought it was over tightened. has slid off like a beauty since then.

I've had a VP folding propeller for 15 years and am not knowingly doing anything different. I had to remove the SD anode and used a large puller on the back of the rope cutter. It's not just about getting initial movement, it remains very sticky on the shaft so I don't think its about over tightening. What "normal VP stuff"? Last year I used VP 'white' marine grease and this year I used Quick Silver propeller grease with much the same outcome.

It's on the boat so can't check but IIRC it's a blue colour - Volvo branded and priced but doesn't need much
