Hi,

I have a very interesting problem in my RPM gauge! When I start the engine RPM gauge is working well but after a few minutes it is stopping and coming to zero. It is constantly happening like this way. Do you guy have any clue that what is the problem?
Thanks
M

You don't say what engine you have .
Some have a sensor " looking at" the passing teeth on one of the gear wheels in the timing gear train (
Others sense the speed of rotation of the alternator via the "W" terminal
Tachos on gasoline engines usually sense the ignition circuit

Check the connections to the sensor if the first type. Check the connection to the alternator if the second type.

Also check connections in the wiring harness and within the panel and the power supply to the tachometer itself.

If the alternator powered type confirm that the alternator is generating properly.

My engine model is Volvo Penta MD11c (1980) 23 hp 3 cylinder. It is working every starting engine around 5 min then it's stopping and staying like this until next start??!

MD11C has a sensor mounted on top of the hand starting gear housing . check the connections here
also refer to the wiring diagram in your owners manual and check the power to the tacho itself.

This engine uses an induction sensor at the rear of the engine port side . It has two wires with spade connectors . Check the connectors are making firm contact. Might have to look around for a new sensor as new they can cost an arm and two legs.

It is also worth checking the connections to the gauge as this receives a 12v supply.

I have had this problem several times on my VP TMD40, but only the starboard one, It has always been poor connection of the spade terminals on the sender. Take them off clean up the spades, and if you have enough spare cable length, cut off the old spade connectors and fit new ones.
